OSIRIS, 11-YEAR-OLD MALE PITBULL
Osiris had a left partial ACL tear, bilateral hip dysplasia, and some elbow dysplasia. He wasn’t using his left hind leg other than as a peg and had a heavy limp on the right front of his body. His joints were painful when palpated during his exam, and his lower back as well.
Osiris received dietary and nutritional therapy, included EFA supplementation (Omega 3 fatty acids), and weekly Adequan injections. He received five Prolotherapy sessions for his knees, hips, and elbows. By the third session, his gait was back to normal and all feet were properly bearing weight and placed firmly on the ground. In the sixth session, we included ACell1 treatment.
Within 10 days after those injections, Osiris was no longer painful on palpation of hips, knees, or elbows. After 5 months he’s gradually improved and no additional Prolotherapy was needed. He regained normal mobility and gait. His limping has completely resolved and he is walking, running, and playing like a normal dog. His pain level has dissipated, without the use of drugs. Osiris could not stand up on his own prior to his treatments and he returned to function.

KLYDE, 13-YEAR-OLD GOLDEN RETRIEVER
Our pets deserve to be pain-free.
Klyde is a 13-year-old golden retriever with severe arthritis. For six months, he was treated with acupuncture, ultrasound, manual manipulation, stretching, massage, and with a natural inflammatory drug.
He was happy and healthy, exhibited a good range of motion, and required minimal drug usage, he lived till the age of 15.

Moritz, 5-year-old Mini Dachshund
Moritz benefitted greatly from physical therapy and alternative treatments. Following spinal surgery to correct a ruptured disc Moritz presented with total paralysis of his hind legs. Ten days later he began physical therapy. The treatments included: acupuncture, external electrical muscle stimulation, exercise using bicycles, therapeutic ultrasound, massage and stretching.
Moritz started walking less than 2 weeks after physical therapy began. He began walking on his own 8 weeks after surgery, and he walked with only a slight abnormality after 12 weeks.
Brock
I recently just joined Yelp. To my surprise, I found my vet, Dr. Babette Gladstein, VMD, on Yelp with two extremely negative reviews. I find myself wanting to tell my story which is in direct contrast to the two 1-star posts (03/21/2014 and 08/31/2014).
My association with Dr. Babette Gladstein began on June 29, 2011. I awoke to find my service dog of 13 years 10 months (age 14 years 3 months) unable to stand and walk. Needless to say, I was in shock. I was afraid my regular vet was going to tell me, “It is time.” I was definitely not ready for that, given “Brockolee & Cheese’s” (“Brock’s”) sudden decline.
A neighbor referred me to the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA) where I found 4 vets listed that met my criteria and serviced NY/Queens. I could not get past one vet’s secretary. They were only concerned that a pay a preliminary fee prior to service and that I fill out paperwork.
A decision on whether Brock met their requirements for treatment would be made in two weeks or more. Despite my telling the vet’s staff that Brock was an extremely loyal, dedicated, and talented service dog (and my closest companion), not to mention, I walk with crutches and have mobility issues due to cerebral palsy and live alone, the staff could not see scheduling an emergency appointment or even allow me the courtesy of speaking with the doctor.
The second vet did not have time in their schedule, nor did they feel it was just to squeeze me in or bump a client. The second vet could see me, if memory serves me correct, in a week and a half. The third veterinarian was Dr. Gladstein. She called back after I left a stressful message.
Dr. Gladstein told me, “Don’t panic. It’s not over yet. Try to relax, so Brock won’t be even more stressed. Try to toilet him. Get help if you need to. Use a belt or towel to help you. I don’t have time this afternoon, but I will see you at 10:30 or 11 p.m. if you are o.k. with that?” You bet I was! The fourth called back two weeks later, upon their return from vacation.
Dr. Gladstein returned four nights later; the Fourth of July at 10:30-11 p.m. for a follow up treatment of physical therapy, acupuncture, electrical stimulation, and laser therapy. Both appointments, the Doctor stayed several hours. I continued monthly and eventually, bimonthly visits with her when it became necessary. When the time was right, we did stem cell and prolotherapy.
I found Dr. Gladstein to be dedicated, compassionate, but direct and blunt. Sometimes the unadulterated truths are hard to hear. I credit Dr. Gladstein with helping me give Brock an additional year and eight months of quality life. Only the last month things were becoming more difficult. Brock passed at home, naturally, six days shy of his sixteenth birthday.
With reading the two poor reviews, I called Dr. Gladstein, to question her because I was upset. This was not the Dr. Gladstein that I had come to know, and I was concerned others would read the reviews and not call a very fine vet who puts the animal’s needs before that of the owner’s or their feelings. This is what I learned:
1. The person who called on a holiday weekend did so at 2:00 a.m. in the morning, not with an immediate emergency, but rather asking if the Doctor would be available the coming Sunday. In this case, the response might be considered understandable.
2. The person who was uncomfortable with Dr. Gladstein’s phrasing and or “bedside manner”: Dr. Gladstein was direct and said that the treatment might not take. Dr. Gladstein did treat the dog despite her being ill-prepared to enter a bed bug-infested apartment.
The apartment was very small, with no safe place for Dr. Gladstein to hang her coat. Dr. Gladstein admits to commenting that the apartment was the smallest she has seen, but in no way did she insult the client by calling it “crap” or show disrespect to the client or their beloved companion. There must have been a great misinterpretation of words here.
I am sorry to hear of these two individuals’ experiences. I am sorry they feel dis-serviced. I can only pass on my thoughts and experiences with Dr. Gladstein, in the hope that others in extreme need do not overlook her expertise in the field, and her dedication and compassion I experience with her handling of my 24 hour-a-day companion and life aid.
If you want a no-nonsense veterinarian who knows her stuff, from my experience, Dr. Gladstein has many areas of expertise, uses a combination of treatments, minimizes manufactured drugs while increasing a holistic approach.
Despite the last two reviewers’ beliefs and experiences, Dr.Gladstein does have a heart and a sense of humor to boot. I have experienced it and continue to be grateful for it. I pushed Dr. Gladstein to take on the care of my new successor dog, “Hilti Gun”, for we are not ready for all her talents and specialty in veterinary geriatrics. Why mess with success?
Peace and health to all.

IF IT WASN’T FOR DR. BABETTE…
… I wouldn’t have Satchmo, the therapy dog!!! The phone rang… It was after my two big dogs, Not, a rescue Greyhound from the track, and Mozart, a Weimaraner Shar-Pei mix, both passed away at 15 years old. The phone rang and it was Dr. Babette Gladstein who was volunteering that Sunday at the Humane Society of New York. She knew I was looking to rescue another dog. She said come over right away because there is a wonderful black Pomeranian here at the shelter with a broken leg. I have always been a big dog person and wasn’t sure about a small dog because they can sometimes be a little yappy. She said, This dog is amazing with a great temperament. She said, I have been pulling and prodding his broken leg and not a peep has come out of him. My spousal equivalent, Robert, and I immediately went to the Humane Society. Seeing this adorable black Pomeranian on the table who was about two and a half pounds and 7 months old, who could resist!! He immediately wrapped his paws around our hearts.
We could not take him home right away because Dr. Babette was treating him with injections of pig stem cells. He needed to stay immobile with a removable cast for a month. She is always doing continuing education to be proficient in the newest and innovative treatments for animals. Now named Satchmo, his leg is totally healed and he runs and plays and jumps with no restrictions.
I immediately realized that he was dog-neutral and people-friendly. I have always volunteered for shelters but now realized I had the opportunity to bond with my new dog Satchmo and train to become a therapy dog team with Pet Partners organization. We have been volunteering for the last 4 years with several organizations; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in their Caring Canine Program and A Fair Shake For Youth, an organization, of which I am now on the Board, that works with underserved kids in the poorest neighborhoods of New York to build greater empathy,self-esteem and reduce bullying.
Flashback, our relationship with Dr. Babette Gladstein started when I moved to New York approximately 18 plus years ago. As mentioned earlier, I had my rescued Greyhound and rescued Weimaraner Shar-Pei mix and needed to find a vet. I was looking for a doctor that did acupuncture for my greyhound as at the time I was still traveling back to Philadelphia on a regular basis to receive acupuncture for my greyhound. I found Dr. Babette Gladstein in a published pet guide. This was life-changing for my dog and me. It relieved the stress of the two and a half hour drive for me and also for my greyhound who would be nervous in a car to begin with. Dr. Gladstein would come to the home, which totally eliminated the stress of travel for my dog. While treating my greyhound, I asked Dr. Gladstein to examine my other dog. We had been going to other vets for a few years with no resolution of a stomach issue that he had.
Dr. Gladstein did a full workup and identified that he had irritable bowel syndrome that had gone undetected by other veterinarians and that had lead to a tumor. She started a regimen of acupuncture, change of diet, alternative herbs and we saw positive results very, very quickly. He lived happily for another 2 1/2 years. When it was time to let him go at the age of 15 Dr. Gladstein came to my home and compassionately did the euthanasia.
Both my greyhound and my Weimaraner Shar-Pei mix both benefited greatly by Dr. Gladstein’s expertise in both traditional and holistic medicine. My greyhound had difficulty walking after racing in this barbaric industry, and acupuncture and laser helped her tremendously. Both my dogs lived to be 15 years old with the great care of Dr. Gladstein.
I have been a supporter and ambassador of Dr. Gladstein for 13+ years and have recommended her because of her excellent care and response to animal’s needs on numerous occasions to friends, neighbors and acquaintances.
Our pets are part of our family and we know whenever they need veterinary care, Dr. Gladstein is a phone call away!
Dolly
My 15 yr old dachshund Dolly was completely paralyzed. Her hind legs were not functioning at all. She was flopping around like a seal, peeing and soiling herself. I took her to several vets including a high-end, chain, highly rated, very expensive vet hospital. They recommended putting her down because they said she was too old for surgery. They gave me some drugs which caused my dog to have a vestibular incident. She was actually worse after seeing these vets! I was at my wit’s end.
A friend who had been using Dr. Gladstein on her then 20 yr. old dog recommended I try her. Dr. Gladstein did physical therapy including electric stimulation, laser, ultrasound and acupuncture. She taught me exercises to do with my dog at home and with the use an Assisi apparatus and an inexpensive hand-held tens machine my dog was walking in two weeks!! I’m also using her nutritional products and my dog not only loves them, she is thriving on them. It’s been over 2 years now. My dog’s health is so good that I took her to France with me on the plane. My dog was able to enjoy walks over there and I was able to have her with me instead of leaving her at home. Her coat is shiny, her energy is great, and her bowels are in excellent shape. I do a monthly physical maintenance session with Dr. Gladstein to keep her back in shape since she has a long back. We have had no recurrence.
I highly recommend Dr. Gladstein. I am extremely happy with my dog’s health. My dog is now 17 yrs old and in great shape.

Coton de Tulear Jack
Our Coton de Tulear Jack was 10 years old when he tore his ACL. He could not put any weight on his rear right leg and consequently, could hardly walk and was in terrible pain. I took him to our Vet who said he needed surgery and would most likely need surgery on his other knee within a year. I thought there had to be a better way. This is when I was lucky enough to find Dr. Babette Gladstein. She came to see Jack immediately and told me she could cure him without surgery. It would take several months of treatments with Laser, Ultrasound and Prolo Therapy. He would also have to wear a brace, on his leg, during the treatment time.
To make a long story short – Jack is totally cured! He’s about to turn 12 and runs like he did when he was a puppy. We are eternally grateful to Dr. Gladstein.
Pulpito

When I adopted Pulpito in Puerto Vallarta Mexico, he could not stand on his hind legs. He had been found on the street likely having been hit by a vehicle. He was about six months old and weighed 9 pounds. I took a chance adopting him, but the fact that he had an appetite gave me hope. When I got back to New York, I contacted Dr. Gladstein, whom I had met in New York before my departure for Mexico, knowing of her excellent reputation as a general veterinarian, as well as her specialty in orthopedic issues. The vet in Mexico had said he had a broken hip but I knew it was more than that. In fact, he had a crushed hip and knee on the right rear, and broken bones in his left rear leg too. His right rear leg was almost atrophied. Dr. Gladstein ordered Xrays and we discovered that his damage was quite extensive. While we consulted a surgeon, Dr. Gladstein recommended alternative therapies which turned out to be the much better decision – much more effective, less invasive and, of course, much less expensive. With laser therapy, A-cell therapy, electric stim, the right supplements (including those especially prepared by Dr. Gladstein), and proper food Pulpito has made a great recovery. You would never know this was the same dog I brought home months before. He weighs a healthy 15 pounds, runs, jumps, loves playing with other dogs, lifts both legs to do his business, and has a lot of energy. Thank you, Dr. Gladstein, for returning this wonderful pet to health. I feel very lucky to have him under your care.

German shepherd
I would like to thank Dr.Babette Gladstein for the wonderful treatment that my dog received for his ACL tear. The injury happened in September 2014 and we were immediately offered traditional surgery. My research lead me to this wonderful option of using prolotheraphy, the hardest part was to find veterinarian who can do it. Many vets that I called never even heard from it. I was very lucky to find Dr.Gladstein who has extensive experience in successfully using this modality. We started our prolo in September 2014 and received 4 treatments. My dog never displayed any visible discomfort from the treatment, but was noticeably getting better. His gate became very fluid and his strength significantly increased.
Dr.Gladstein followed prolo with stem cell injections and then PRP treatment. The combination provided not only complete healing of the ACL but increased strength and endurance of my dog. We are able to continue our Schutzhund training and participate in competitions. Pictures speak a thousand words!
